The first time Jeremy M.’s dad took him to a baseball game was for his 5th birthday when they lived in Kansas City and the opposing pitcher was Nolan Ryan. It was one of Jeremy’s most favorite birthdays to date. To have the opportunity to take his dad on this most amazing experience is something Jeremy will always be grateful to DraftKings for helping to make it happen.
Q Give us a play-by-play of your experience? Did you travel from far? What was your favorite part of your experience?
A We flew to NYC out of NW Arkansas with a connection in Chicago. It was our first trip to New York as well as Chicago so we saw the Sears Tower, Freedom Tower, and Empire State Building all for the first time in a span
of only 90 minutes. After we got checked into The Grand Hyatt we went next door and ate a burger inside Grand Central Station.
The number of people we saw just while we were eating was probably equal to the number of people I see in a whole year. At twilight we went back out and took some pictures of the city and I ate some New York style cheesecake.
On the next day after having breakfast and picking up our tickets, we went on our first ever subway ride to Citi Field. Less than a minute after getting to the VIP entrance I got a call from our DraftKings representative asking what time we would arrive. He and the MLB Network representative were very professional and helpful in letting us know what to expect when we went onto the field. After one MLB representative helped us get through security a second MLB representative met us to take us to the field. She was very friendly.
Watching batting practice on the field and meeting Mark Derosa, Al Leiter, and Heidi Watney was not only my favorite part of the trip it is one of my most favorite memories of my life. While watching batting practice we were standing only a few feet from Joe Torre and Commissioner Manfred. That was completely unexpected.
Mark Derosa, Al Leiter, and Heidi Watney were all very friendly and even though it was one of their most important days of the year they just chatted with us about baseball, what we thought of the City, and the best spots to eat at the ballpark. We then went up and watched a great ball game even though it was the one game the Royals lost. It was definitely a night I will never forget.
