Jon C. couldn’t control his excitement in his living room as Adam Scott kept sinking long putts while his family members and friends watched alongside of him. They couldn’t understand how televised golf could be so exciting. Winning the contest meant that Jon now had the once in a life time chance to meet Tiger Woods and the opportunity to play at Shadow Creek Golf Course.
Q Give us a play-by-play of your experience? Did you travel from far? What was your favorite part of your experience?
AFrom the moment our flight from Virginia touched down in Las Vegas to attend Tiger Jam, the three days were packed with unforgettable events. I didn't realize how overused and diluted the term "VIP" is until the weekend was over.
The first day started with a private golf exhibition put on by Tiger Woods at Shadow Creek Golf Course (a course which should be on every true golf fan’s bucket list). From there, I went on to play a caddy-assisted round of golf at the most beautiful course I have ever played. Shortly after the round, it was time to attend Tiger’s Poker Night which was full of celebrities, poker pros and athletes. It was hard not to have too much fun at the Poker Night because early the next morning was the Tiger Jam golf tournament at Shadow Creek. Placing third in net score at the tournament and taking home a trophy plate from the event is one of the highlights of my sports life.
As if that weren’t enough, that evening consisted of attending the Tiger Jam silent auction, live auction, private concert by Jason Mraz, and after party at the MGM Grand. After that weekend packed with true VIP experiences and hospitality from DraftKings and Tiger Woods Foundation representatives, we were lucky to make our early flight home the next morning.
Q Who did you bring with you on your experience?
A My wife Rachel.
Q Tell us about your winning contest "sweat. What contest did you enter (e.g. $3 PGA Qualifier)? Who was in your winning lineup?
A I won the second of 10 qualifiers which was a $27 contest. I don't remember my entire lineup but I do know I relied on Adam Scott draining long putts all weekend to win the Honda Classic for my victory.
Q Where were you when you won? How did you celebrate? Fist pump like Tiger? Riverdance like Chad Ochocinco? “Ride the Bull” like Happy Gilmore?
A When I won, I was in my living room going nuts while my family and visitors who are 1,000 times less interested in golf than I am were in the other room trying to contemplate how I could be so passionate about televised golf.
Q Favorite team? How long have you been a fan of this team? Favorite team moment?
A Washington Redskins since before I was born. I was too young to fully appreciate the team's last Super Bowl and candidates for favorite moments since then have been few, so I'll have to say the victory against the Cowboys in the last regular season game of 2012 to cap a 7 game winning streak and clinch the division has been my favorite team moment.
Q Favorite athlete?
A As a Braves fan and first baseman, I grew up idolizing Fred McGriff.
Q Favorite sports movie?
A I have to divide them into genre and say "Happy Gilmore" for comedy and "The Fighter" for drama.
Q Favorite sports memory?
A Playing golf at Shadow Creek Golf Course.
Q What else is on your sports bucket list?
A Stepping foot on the grounds of Augusta National Golf Club.
Q What do you love most about DraftKings?
A Everyone loves the amount of sports offerings DraftKings has. What sets DraftKings apart for me is the way they appreciate and take care of their loyal users.
